Is Ministry in the Church Gender Based? Empty
PostSubject: Is Ministry in the Church Gender Based?   Is Ministry in the Church Gender Based? Icon_minitimeSat Feb 27, 2010 12:32 pm

Ministry in the Church is Gifting and not Gender Based. Neither is it Race or Social Status based, just for the record.

Every believer - male or female - is a priest, part of a holy nation; with Christ as our High Priest. There is no direction that a female should go through a male. All are members of His Body as living stones in the temple of the Holy Spirit.
Quote :
1Pe 2:5 And you are living stones that God is building into His spiritual temple. What's more, you are His holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.
1Pe 2:6 As the Scriptures say, "I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in Him will never be disgraced."
1Pe 2:7 Yes, you who trust Him recognize the honor God has given Him. But for those who reject Him, "The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone."
1Pe 2:8 And, "He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they do not obey God's word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them.
1Pe 2:9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light. NLT
There is a teaching in some Churches today that the man is the "priest of the home,” or that women need the “spiritual covering” of a husband in order to be in order. There simply is no biblical basis for this teaching. Both women and men are priests in Christ, as seen in verse 9 above. In Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, but all are one.
Quote :
Gal 3:26 For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God through faith.
Gal 3:27 For as many [of you] as were baptized into Christ [into a spiritual union and communion with Christ, the Anointed One, the Messiah] have put on (clothed yourselves with) Christ.
Gal 3:28 There is [now no distinction] neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:29 And if you belong to Christ [are in Him Who is Abraham's Seed], then you are Abraham's offspring and [spiritual] heirs according to promise. AMP

I think that is incomplete. I believe that God calls a man and a woman together to pastor a church; a married couple. I believe He calls couples to pastor not just men. A man on his own will get off track and a woman on her own will get off track.

Good question. I think being single is a state of completeness because we are joined to Christ.

But I think in terms of function when pasturing a church that male and female are needed in equal measure. When you get too much male and not enough female input you get “Boy’s Club”. In my opinion, it is better that the Pastoring couple have children too. This enables better minstry to families.

Pastoring is a tough call. It needs two, simply to give the strength for the job. To pastor is to be in the firing line day and night. It is expected that they walk in love. Not easy to do with all the different personalities in the Family of God. We all need to diligently pray for our Pastors. When church members make a mistake it is more easily forgotten, but when the Pastor makes a mistake it is more roughly judged. Perhaps this is as it should be because of the sphere of influence and the awesome responsibility of the Message being spoken from the pulpit, but that does not make it easier. They need to hold themselves accountable to a trusted body of believers. And everyone needs to pray for them. It takes a special grace to live that kind of “gold-fish bowl” life.
